Dear hoster : We need more memory !

A lot of people update to WordPress 2.8 and get the message :

Allowed memory size of 33554433 bytes exhausted

So, with WP2.8 we reached now the limit of many hosters (32MB), who is the bad boy ? Can we increase the limit ? I faced a similar problem here with my homepage and wrote a simple plugin for the WordPress dashboard which shows up the limit and current usage. Just for the notes, a Wordpress 2.3 + NextGEN Gallery and 10 other plugins require 16.32 Mbyte memory.

Ok, what is the limit for a fresh WordPress 2.8 installation under PHP 4 and PHP 5 ?

Bugfix release Version 1.3.2

I must apologize the bug release of Version 1.3.x, there are more problems inside as I expected. I will do my best to sort out all issues, please be so kind and open a new thread at the forums when you have still problems with the new version.

In this minutes I uploaded Version 1.3.2, if you want to use the automatic upgrade it can takes a couple of hours until your WordPress installation recognize the new update.

Subalbum - NextGEN Gallery V1.3.0 released

As you can read from the WordPress blog, the version 2.8 should be released on June, 10th. So I speed up the release of NGG , I hope there are no more major bugs inside. What is new in this version ?

There are two,three things I would highlight :

1. Subalbum support

As often requested, I extend the album system in the way that you can add a album inside another album. Therefore you can add now on the album page for each album a description text and a preview image. As limitation you are not longer able to add more that one album to a post/page.

2. Search for images

In the gallery tab you are now able to search for images. I know that many people requested as well a search in the front-end, but here I need a bit more time. It’s still on my task list…

3. AJAX navigation for gallery and imagebrowser
Thanks to the contribution from Anty we have now a Ajax navigation. See a demo here : Imagebrowser or gallery. It’s limited to the inbuilt Shutter reloaded effect, so if you use any other javascript image effect it’s requires a modification of the AJAX script code. You can request help at the forums.

NextGEN Gallery v1.3.0 Beta 1

WordPress 2.8 is on the way and I fixed therefore a couple of compat issues. You can help me now with testing the next release step V1.3.0. It should work as well under WordPress 2.7, but the design in the album page is already fitted to the UI of WordPress 2.8.

You mainly ask what is new ? I will write some more information at release date, you can have a first look at the change log here. Happy testing.

A new tools for Firefox called Snipi is now available. You can drag and drop products, photos and videos from virtually anywhere and organize, share and compare. They also write a new plugin for WordPress. See it here in action :

Javascript overload

I setup this weekend my new NAS (QNAP TS-219). It’s very fast and I finished the installation within 2 hours. Then I start to play with the features & functions. The admin backend is really nice and easy to understand, but I recognize that it require a lot of loading time… Switched on firebug and get shocked, I never have seen so much javascript libraries loaded at the same time… Overall 2 MB (!) and nearly all existing Javascript frameworks. Hey QNAP Guys , a nice backend is cool, but try a smaller footprint.

Looking for a NAS solution

During the last days I’m crawling the web to find the best NAS for my home office. I would like to have a web server possibility, so that I can implement WordPress with NextGEN Gallery and wordTube. Funny thing, QNAP already tested and documented my plugin : Look this application note. It’s better than my own documentation

The brand new QNAP TS-119 is currently my favorite NAS, alternative the Synology DS107+ seems to be working with WordPress. Any experience from your side with QNAP or Synology ? Which one can your recommend ? Have you experience with WordPress and a other NAS ?
