Better media handling into core ?

WordPress 2.9 seems to be focus on a better media handling, which is a long awaiting feature for all NGG users. Please vote on the development blog now! You can be sure that I will work on a import filter into the core gallery, when WordPress 2.9 is ready, so that you didn’t loose all your work and effort which you put on NGG….

Hopefully they take a lot of your input, to get the best media gallery system.

Hi, because of the memmory usage i decided to use WP2.71 for a while. Would further NGG versions be still compatible with previous WP versions?

What are the changes in NGG 1.3.4?

  2. alex.rabe says:

No, with 1.4.X it will be only compatible with WP2.8 or higher, it takes too much time to support older WP version. See the changelog here : http://alexrabe.de/wordpress-plugins/nextgen-gallery/changelog/

Thanks, I like NGG. Don’t want miss any update. 😉
Good reason to search for a memmory solution.

Dear Hoster: I need more memory … 🙂

I look forward to 1.4 release, Alex you’ve done an amazing job with this plugin. It’s the #1 plugin on WordPress at the moment without a doubt :).

The ngg_gal_sort override via a post’s custom field still does not work where I use [nggtags gallery=’some tag’]. Thanks.

    Hi Alex,
I have a quick question regarding this plugin. I noticed in my page titles, the wording “Album 3 >> Gallery 3” etc etc

Is it possible to have this more SEO friendly?

As in have the actual names of the albums and galleries show in the page titles.

Here is an example of what I mean..

Thanks mate, this is an awesome plugin!

Well after much time, I am not encouraging the use of your plugin in WordPress any longer with my future wordpress projects, and have alternatively chosen to use the basic WordPress Media handling instead.

In the past, I managed to embed a sharpening script (VERY USEFUL for thumbnails and large image resizing to small images) in your previous versions of NexGen and also managed to provide you with the opportunity to embed that sharpening in your code for future versions of NexGen so that it would be available to everyone should they choose to use it.

Yet you have not implemented it, nor provided any feedback with regards to it and why it wasn’t implemented.
I did all the ground work and coding for you, and you walked away without any further perspective on it or a reason why you didn’t use it.

I still have the sharpening script code, but with every new version of nexgen that you release, I find it more tedious to figure out what you have changed in the base NexGen code and how to insert the sharpening script in this new base code.

I am just going to create an image sharpening plugin that will hook into the upload and “crunch” process of WordPress’s Media attachment image upload process. It will likely never be compatible with the upload process used within NexGen, since intrinsically your plugin does not have a inner-filter hook process for me to target my plugin with.

Thanks for all of your hard workon this project. Alas, I think WordPress’s Media Gallery will evolve for people to not need NexGen gallery in the future anyhow – or maybe – the WordPress group will embed many of the NexGen feature codes into the WordPress base code, which would be nice as then I could hook into that with my optional sharpening script.

No hard feelings, just honestly upfront, and wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

    Cheers,
    // mike

    Mike,
the reson why I didn’t implement your code is simple : I forgot it. Sorry for that, I really need to dig out our email conversion from last your. Your sharpening result is really good, but not many people requested such a feature. And my work for NGG is driver by my personal requirements and wishes from users. If you would get running your code I suggest that you program an addon plugin for it, it could be usefull as well for the wp core media lib. If you are not totally frustrated I’m happy to help you to get this working…

    Alex

P.S. : Yes the WP Core gallery is the future, I have no doubt that there comes a time that we didn’t need NGG anymore.

Is there a plug-in for my gallery images that will enable me to run them as a slide show and add music. I would also like to be able to reposition the thumb-nail image composition in the gallery. or be able to view them in the 3-2 perportion rather than the square.
I am also looking for a contact person to help me when i have questions. I am willing to pay for this service. My daughter who owns spotlight creative has lost her wordpress expert and is looking for a new one.

    Thanks
